How To Boost Verizon LTE Data Speeds & Remove Data Throttling On iPhone 5 & iPad 4/3/Mini 7 Comments

This is a guide to increase your data speeds on Verizon. This does not increase coverage so please don’t be expecting that. Thanks!

iPhone 5 Users:

1. Plug your iPad into iTunes and backup the device so you won’t lose anything, just in case. ;)

2. Download the hacked carrier update here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/l7e4tnzjigwzdb0/Verizon_LTE_US_iPhone_14.1.ipcc

3. Once downloaded, you’ll to go ahead and enable iTunes to accept custom carrier bundles, if it’s not already.

4. Windows users, you will need to open command prompt and type the following and enter it in:

 64 bit: cd C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes then type: iTunes.exe/setPrefInt carrier-testing 1

 32 bit: cd C:\Program Files\iTunes then type: iTunes.exe/setPrefInt carrier-testing 1

Mac users you will need to open terminal and type the following and enter it in:

Mac: defaults write com.apple.iTunes carrier-testing -bool true

5. After this has successfully been entered in, click on the tab for your iPad and click “Update” or “Check For Update” while holding down the Alt/Option key for Mac users and the Shift key for Windows users. Navigate to where you downloaded the hacked carrier update file, which will be named “ATT_US_iPad_14.1.ipcc” then select it and click Open. Now restart your device and enjoy faster speeds.

If you encounter any problems or wish to revert back just follow the “Revert” guide below.

Revert Guide:

1. Non-jailbroken users will need to navigate to Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings and allow the device to reboot into iTunes then choose the Restore From Backup option in iTunes. That’s all.

2. Jailbroken users will need to download the zip files below, unarchive it in iFile, and navigate to var/mobile/Library/Carrier bundles/iPhone or iPad and paste the original ATT_US.bundle folder in place of the hacked one. Once done, restart your device and you should be back to normal.

Tech talk:

This hack enables 1x Advanced and EVDO Rev. B on the iPhone 5 and iPad 3, 4, and mini as well as enhancing LTE data speeds. Though Verizon is limited to EVDO Rev. A, the device itself becomes more open to an increased amount of bandwidth thus allowing for better throughput of data and data connection. Throttling code was put in place to limit users to a certain amount of bandwidth on 3G and LTE but will now have a better opportunity for some faster speeds. This won’t increase signal so don’t expect it to like the AT&T version of this hack.

Disclaimer:

This hack does NOT guarantee that you will see any dramatic changes or any change at all as certain areas are simply limited because of population density, natural features that degrade signal, the traffic on a specific tower, and even the amount of spectrum the tower is limited to as not all LTE towers have been upgraded to 10MHz or more for higher bandwidth support. If you feel this hack has not helped you, we have provided a way back to defaults, if you choose to do so.

went into an area with no service… “Verizon” switched to “searching”

when returning to an area with service phone still said “searching”

    Tried:

    Restarting the phone/respring/hard reset

    Clear network settings

    Clear all settings

Turned airplane mode off and on

    Turned cellular on and off

    Turned roaming on and off

    Removed sim card

Got home – downloaded the original carrier bundle, installed, restarted

    Still “Searching…”

Updated the carrier bundle again to the modified one

    Still “Searching…”

    Pulled sim card out

Still “Searching…” when it should read “No Sim”

Attempted to erase all content from iPhone and I get a spinning wheel, vs. the normal task/progress bar.

    Deleted Cached files for var/mobile/library

iPhone 5 iOS 6.0.1 Evasion Jailbreak

Level Experience; Apple iOS Tier 2 Advisor

Next I will try deleting .plists
