How To Root ANY Samsung Galaxy S3 4.1.2 & 4.1.1 – Verizon/AT&T/Sprint/T-mobile/I9300 Version 130 Comments

This method is the easiest of all out there, mostly because it works on ALL versions of the Samsung Galaxy S3 on ANY Firmware including 4.1.2, 4.1.1 & 4.0.4. The only extra step is for the Verizon version since it has a locked bootloader. Grab the links below and see video above for instructions!

Worked great (Verizon 4.1.2) – thanks! At first, I didn’t realize that I needed to install Bootchain #1, the Auto Root, ‘AND’ Bootchain #3 (in that order), but once I got past that this was easy as pie. Thanks, again!

    • Joe

What do you mean by “AND” Do I need to install the Auto Root and Bootchain #3 Simultaneously by having both the bootloader and pda boxed checked at the same time in odin? Im still getting the custom logo….

      • Nicole Shehan

step one you have to do VRALC then do the CFW and then do the VBRM

  • Foretravel

I got it thank you so much now I need to learn how to unlock the samsung Galaxy III verizon telephone

it seems this method is not the best

  • Harrison

I rooted my Verizon GS3 using your method. I was able to flash the unlocked bootloader and the CF Auto Root. However, after flashing the boot chain for 4.1.2 I still get the custom symbol when restarting the phone. I am definitely running on 4.1.2, so I’m not sure what to do. I flashed the boot chain using bootloader in ODIN. Thanks.

    • Kevin Daugherty

I have the same issue, The custom icon remains even after doing the last boot chain for 4.1.2

      • eli salbadong

same here….any update so far. thanks

    • clueville

any luck on a solution yet?

      • Weepypostman

SOLUTION: For those on 4.1.2, I’ve figured out how to get rid of the “custom” icon. Once rooted, get Ez-unlock12.apk, press lock once, hit yes, then press unlock once. And done!

        • Jeff

This Did Work!!! so anybody who is trying to get rid of the custom icon and make sure the bootloader is unlocked do this!

    • John

I have the same crappy custom icon as well with no way to get rid of it.

    • Adam

Same Thing for me. What’s the deal?

      • Cassity Bible

The custom symbol will also show up if you use Nova or another home screen, nothing to worry about

    • Sergeant Gleason

So have we found a fix for this yet?

  • Lane

Hey, worked great nice! Running verizon galaxy s3, follow what he says in video, piece o cake and what guy said below “install Bootchain #1, the Auto Root, ‘AND’ Bootchain #3 (in that order)” have a nice day

  • rome

Will rooting wipe off everything that’s on my phone currently?

  • Alex Villarreal

my comment was deleted… I tried ALL this and did not work, got the verizon unathorized software…

  • Frank

did everything you said but dont have supersu app on phone what happened

  • jnaso

I have Sprint, It doesn’t work. It looks like it works but Super SU ins’t there. Thanks I had a rooted phone on 4.1.1 now I have a unrooted phone on 4.1.2.

    • Cameron

Same, Boost Mobile is based off Sprint. I went through the root process but didn’t get Super SU either. Help?

  • sue

link for vrbmb1 says it is invalid when trying to boot in odin

  • Seamus

Would not work for me.. When I try to flash the VRALEC bootloader it says file is 0 successful..

    • ronitld

You are most likely missing a driver. Check to see if your computer recognizes that your phone is connected while it’s in download mode (even if your computer recognizes your phone just fine in normal USB mode, it might not detect it in download mode). If your computer is not detecting your phone, check the bottom right-hand toolbar (if you are using Windows 7) for a notification. If your computer does not have permission to automatically search online for missing drivers, give it that permission. It should now search for and install the missing driver. Once that step has been completed, go back to Odin (in download mode). The bar underneath the tag “ID:COM” should now be yellow instead of white. Proceed with the steps as outlined in the video. Best of luck!

      • Dianne Santos

This fixed my issue…you are a GENIUS!!!! Thank you!! My PC recognized my phone in normal mode but needed to install drivers for when in download mode. YIPPEE!!!!

      • Dianne Santos

OK I spoke too soon. It did the boot loader after fixing the driver but now it won’t install the auto root. I click start and it looks like it’ll start but then freezes and doesn’t go any further. Suggestions??

  • Lester

i tried everything it says pass but I don’t have the icon u wer talkin about

  • Bryce

Now my phone wont turn on. what should i do

    • Rabbit

Just tried it and worked fine for me on my Verizon S3. Don’t know what all these people are doing that are missing their phones up. Thanks for this video, good info.

  • nishant

i did boot as u say but when i install my att sim it shows no verison sim.can u email me i want to unlock

  • Patrick Neely

i have a carrier unlocked verizon s3 but cant access mobile data to set is for my country, will this help with that?

  • Rob

    works like charm !!
Thank you very very much !!

  • Daniel Klapa

Worked like a charm on 4.1.2. Followed the directions to the letter and it worked without a problem.

  • Mike

says i need a verizon certified firmware or something, any suggestions?

  • Thomas Paine

Why did I not heed the warnings of those who tried and failed? I triple checked to make extra sure my device was listed… and it was. I read many pages of instructions on how to root, most of them filled with a bizarre sounding language vaguely resembling English.

I should have known to bail on this B.S. when I did exactly what was specified, but pushing the volume up , power, and Home put me in Recovery Mode rather than Download Mode…. But I thought,…. OK…. The guy doesn’t know the difference between up and down…. I meet lots of people like that.

So I used the Down-Power-Home combination and and went into Download Mode. Then I connected the device (a step this video ineptly omits), and Odin loaded the tar file, but then the program completely froze with the ominous message “Downloading. Do not turn off target !!”. Eventually… when nothing was happening, I had no option but to turn off the target (i.e. my phone), expecting the worst. To my great relief, it rebooted properly, with no apparent damage. All my apps are now “updating” to their state prior to this fiasco… All it apparently cost me was a couple hours of reading, stress, and anxiety.
bout. about… about,. My problem’s just the opposite…. I seem like I don’t know what I’m talking about, even when I do.

    Ok, finally got it.

the guy that posted this you helped me :)
You have to install Bootchain #1, Auto root, THEN BOOTCHAIN #3 and it will work.

Worked great (Verizon 4.1.2) – thanks! At first, I didn’t realize
that I needed to install Bootchain #1, the Auto Root, ‘AND’ Bootchain

  • Rob Mintzes

How long does it take for the last bootchain to work in Odin? I’ve been stuck on Please wait.. for about 5 minutes now. I noticed a transition in your video, which would indicate that it doesn’t happen that quickly, but for how long?

    • Rob Mintzes

Never mind, restarted the phone, restarted Odin, and reloaded the bootchain and it went through this time.

  • genejockey33000

Awesome. Thank you very much. Worked like a charm, very fast and easy with my GS3 running 4.1.2 on a mac running Odin through Parallels.

  • Todd

You have a link for ‘Boot Chain #2 for Verizon S3 VRBMB1 (Jelly Bean 4.1.2)’. My phone got updated today to 4.1.2 but the number was slightly different. My phone is Baseband version I535VRBLMD3. Will your file work on my phone or should I wait for an updated file?

    • Jake Dombrower

NOOOOO I tried and when I flashed Hyperion I got a nice “System software not authorized by verizon wireless has been found on
your phone. Please turn off your phone and go to the nearest Verizon
Wireless store for help.” Had to ODIN back to stock. It was not fun. 0/10 would not do again.

      • gwhiteVT

I may be 1 step away from this. I followed the method – all is well right now, but i do get the “custom” icon at boot up and can’t get rid of it. I have the VRBLMD3 version as well, which just came out – when did you get the Verizon Nasty-Gram? When you tried to flash a custom ROM?

  • Mikey

Bro, I think I love you.
Thank you so much for this guide. Worked like a champ!

  • gwhiteVT

For Verizon Users: If you are hoping to get your phone back, after the latest OTA update messed it up. (Loss of 4G, random reboots etc) This method will not really work if you already installed the VRBMD3 update – the final step will not remove the “custom” boot icon, and I ended up in a boot loop. I had to flash back to Stock (4.0.4) with Odin, and took all the OTA’s again – I just stopped short of the most recent update Running (VRBMB1)…so no multi-windows for me for now.

  • Paul J. Pival

This is a carefully prepared, well-presented demonstration. Thank you!

  • Rayne

I am on 4.1.1 and everything seemed to work successfully, but now I can’t find Super SU on my device anywhere. Help?

  • andrew

Ran Odin to unlock boot loader and now phone will not turn on. No lights, no sounds, nothing. DO NOT USE THIS METHOD.

  • Anthony Anderlionis

i have verizon and went to flash the cralec bootchain file and it failed. i have no idea why. any help?

  • Windows65

Does This Work On Verizon Samsung Jellybean 4.1.2 SCH I200 because i do not see it on the list… is it safe to try a different version?

  • AbdarRhman

i faced the same problem guys, just leave your SG3 in the same downloading mode unplug it and restart your PC.hook your USB cable do root steps it’ll work,,

IN SHORT>> restart the PC :P

  • Chris Lynn

I have the 16GB Developer Edition. Will I have to take these same steps or something different, or does it even matter with it still being Verizon?

  • Patrick B

when i do the step where we use auto root nothing happens and there is no ID Com (i have the same phone as you do in the video)

  • Andrew

thanks!!!! great root no problems ATT GS3!

  • bbshopplf

Worked perfect for my Verizon Galaxy 3S, on 4.1.2. Already had the latest Samsung Galaxy USB drivers installed (from a simple Google search for “galaxy 3s usb drivers”. Thanks for a great how-to.

  • shaikh

Can you unlock Orange? Uk company

  • spencer

so i tried your mwthod, it worked at first then i downloaded rom manager and backup titanium. i then tried to download a custom rom and now everytime i try to turn on my phone i get a message that says “system software not authorized by verizon wireless has been found on your phone. please turn off your phone and go to the nearest verizon wireless store for help” how can i fix this?

  • Ben

I bought my phone straight from samsung and it doesnt belong to any company and i think it is different for me .

  • Cooper

My phone now won’t turn on, although if I hold buttons on my phone my computer starts beeping at me, but it doesn’t show on my computer like it did before. This method is bullshit. If you like your phone don’t do it. all these people are saying how it works, yet I have a Verizon and now mine’s a 300$ paperweight.

  • swagner

worked great for me and i have tmobile

    Great, no-nonsense video. Thanks!

  • Rob

Your old webpage used to have a video showing how to root/unlock a Verizon GS3 4.04 i535 (complete with it’s own direct files). I attempted the “All Versions” video from above but receive the ” All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 0)” while attempting load the bootloader. Any chance of getting the old files? I get an error 509 when trying to download and dropbox says there’s too much traffic. Any help would be greatly appreciated. (I’ve also read all the comments below- nothing worked).

  • suitcheyhanbali

mine is SCH-R530C, but the only file present for CF-Auto-Root is SCH-R530U do I donwload that one?

  • Link

Wonder why i can get root but i can’t install roms without errors. Don’t get it.

  • Clayton

This worked out perfectly. No issues whatsoever.

  • Weepypostman

Worked perfectly. My palms were sweating the whole time though lol. Having the same issue as others about the “unlocked” icon still being there after the second bootload. (Using 4.1.2) Not really a big deal, but it would be nice to have it gone. THANKS!

  • Weepypostman

For those on 4.1.2, I’ve figured out how to get rid of the stupid lock icon that says custom. Once rooted, get Ez-unlock12.apk, press lock once, hit yes, then press unlock once. And done!

  • Al

    thx…. it worked

This method must be outdated. I just bought a Samsung Gallaxy S3 from VirginMobile(SPH-L710). I followed all instructions, got the screen with the red Adroid guy, Odin said “Success”, but after it rebooted, it wasn’t jailbroken.

  • L B
